Modules running 2011-12

Note that times are provisional and subject to change.

Semester One

(19 Sept 2011 – 17 Dec 2011; exams for these modules take place week commencing 9 January 2012. Christmas break is Monday 19 Dec 2011 – Friday 6 Jan 2012.)

Modules for MSc Computing/ MSc Information Systems students (full time students do all of these):

  • Information Systems Monday 2-4, 5-7
  • Object Oriented Programming Tuesday 2-6. (Plus an optional drop-in surgery Tuesday 11-12)
  • Multimedia and Internet Applications Thursday 2-4, 5-7.

Modules for MSc Advanced Computing/ MSc Digital Media Computing students (full time students do all of these):

  • Mobile Computing Tuesday 9-12, 1-2
  • Artificial Intelligence Systems Wednesday 2-6
  • Computer Games Programming & Design Friday 9-1

(It may be possible for a part time MSc Computing or MSc Information Systems student, studying over several years, to take one or more of these three modules, subject to discussion with, and approval from, the Programme Leader.)

Semester Two

(16 January 2012 – 20 April 2012; exams for these modules will probably be sometime between Monday 30 April 2012 and Friday 25 May 2012. Week commencing Monday 23 April 2012 is anticipated to be an official MMU private revision week. Easter break is Monday 26 March 2012 to Friday 13 April 2012.) All students share a common pool of modules. Full time students do three modules.

  • Information Systems Management & Strategy (core for MSc Information Systems) Monday 2-4, 4.30-6.30
  • Enterprise Programming Tuesday 1-3, 4-6
  • Advanced Database Systems Wednesday 9-12, 1-2
  • Multimedia Authoring Thursday 1-4, 5-6
  • Software Architecture Friday 2-6
  • Additionally, in Semester Two there is a project support seminar on Tuesday, 12-1. It has no credit rating, and prepares students for the project, which takes place June – September for full time students.

A part time student usually tries to complete the required 120 credits of taught modules over two years, which usually means studying 20 or 40 credits (one or two 20 credit modules) per semester. Most part timers aim for completion (including the project) over three years, and it is rare for somebody to take longer than five years. Part time projects are done over 12 calendar months, usually starting in September. Full time students do their project 1 June 2012 to 30 Sept 2012.
