The School of Computing, Mathematics and Digital Technology has state-of-the-art specialist facilities including 10 modern networked laboratories, housing both PCs(running Linux and Windows) and Apple G5 PowerMac computers accommodated within a new building. All machines are networked and provide industry standard software, professional operating systems, intranet, internet and email services.
The School also has a dedicated student project laboratory for specialised software and development, as well as a wide range of specialist equipment for advanced work in Games, Mobile Computing and Internet Development.
A new GameLab facility is now complete. This contains a state of the art Usability Laboratory used for teaching and research in the areas of games design, Multimedia and Human Computer Interaction(HCI).
It also contains a Development facility where students and researchers can work with advanced interaction devices and consoles.
The School has its own dedicated computing laboratories for research that, in addition to standard PCs, include a NEC vector supercomputer facility (the first of its kind in a British university).
The School is based in the Faculty of Science and Engineering, which has a further six IT laboratories, also new, all of which contain PCs providing MS Office and other general purpose software. Also it is based on the central All Saints Campus of the University, close to the main library which provides access to a wide-ranging collection of books and journals that support the subject area and offers a bright, spacious study environment with over 1100 individual study spaces. The library also offers a 200 PC drop-in centre.
